A royalty dispute has surfaced over the hit Saiyaara title track after music composer Tanishk Bagchi claimed he is yet to receive ₹8 lakh in royalties despite the song’s massive success. The composer alleged that the payment he initially received from Yash Raj Films (YRF) barely covered his production expenses, leaving him with little financial benefit from one of the year’s biggest chartbusters.
In a now-deleted social media post, Tanishk clarified that he was not seeking sympathy but wanted to highlight the realities of the music industry. He wrote that the experience had changed his perspective, adding that the pending royalty amount felt insignificant compared to the effort, time, and passion he invested in creating the song.
Responding to the allegations, Yash Raj Films firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating that all payments had been made according to the contractual agreement. The production house clarified that the Saiyaara title track was a collaborative effort between Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami, and that royalties have been distributed equally among the three composers as agreed.
In an official statement, a YRF spokesperson said, “Saiyaara title track was a beautiful collaboration between three composers. Royalties for the title track have been shared and will continue to be shared equally between all three composers as contractually agreed by all, including Tanishk. YRF has paid every collaborator their due, as per contract, within mutually agreed terms and timelines.”
The controversy began after Tanishk’s social media post went viral before being deleted. While the composer expressed disappointment over the financial returns from the song, YRF has maintained that it fulfilled all contractual obligations and that royalty payments will continue to be shared equally among the composers.
The Saiyaara title track was sung by Kashmiri singer-composer Faheem Abdullah, who also co-composed the song with Tanishk Bagchi and Arslan Nizami. The lyrics were penned by acclaimed lyricist Irshad Kamil. Despite the ongoing royalty dispute, the song continues to enjoy immense popularity across streaming platforms and social media.
