Police say the individuals were unable to produce valid documents proving legal residence in India

June 16, 2026: A special verification drive conducted by Gurugram Police has led to the detention of 13 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly living and working in the city without valid travel or residency documents. Acting on intelligence inputs, crime branch teams carried out searches at construction sites and informal settlements, where the individuals were reportedly employed as daily wage workers. Police said documents confirming their Bangladeshi nationality were recovered during the operation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Hitesh Yadav said the detainees failed to provide valid proof of legal stay in India. During questioning, one of the individuals allegedly revealed that he entered India illegally through the Kaliaganj border area in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district with the assistance of agents operating on both sides of the international border. Authorities said all 13 had been working in Gurugram for some time.

Police have initiated the legal process for their deportation and stated that the verification drive will continue across rented accommodations, slum areas, industrial zones and hotels. Residents, landlords, RWAs and employers have been urged to verify the identities of tenants, domestic workers and employees. Officials clarified that the exercise targets only foreign nationals staying illegally and does not affect Indian citizens or foreigners possessing valid documents.
