Candidates involved in the 69,000 teacher recruitment case protested in extreme heat, alleging delays
May 18, 2026: In Uttar Pradesh, candidates connected to the controversial 69,000 teacher recruitment case staged a dramatic protest by crawling on roads under intense heat while marching toward the residence of the state’s education minister. The protest was linked to alleged irregularities in the recruitment process, particularly concerning reservation rules for OBC and SC candidates.
The protesters claimed that despite favourable court rulings, the government failed to ensure proper legal representation in higher courts, resulting in years of delay in appointments. Many candidates expressed frustration, saying the prolonged dispute had severely affected their careers and future prospects over the past six years.
Police stopped the demonstrators before they could reach the minister’s residence. During the protest, several candidates made emotional appeals, alleging neglect and injustice by the authorities. The agitation has once again reignited political and social debate surrounding the teacher recruitment process and the government’s handling of the case.
