No injuries reported, but incident raises fresh concerns over election security in Asansol

April 23, 2026: Tension flared in Asansol during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly Elections after the car of BJP leader Agnimitra Paul was allegedly targeted in a stone-pelting incident. The vehicle’s rear window was shattered when the attack occurred near Rahmat Nagar as she was leaving a polling booth.

Paul described the incident as a deliberate attempt to disrupt the electoral process. She claimed that the stone was hurled at her moving car and alleged that the attack was politically motivated. A formal complaint has been filed, seeking action against those responsible.

While no injuries were reported, the incident has raised concerns about security arrangements in the area during polling. Police have not yet issued an official statement, but authorities are expected to review security measures to prevent further disturbances as voting continues.
