Unconfirmed reports suggest more AIADMK legislators may resign as political realignments continue after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
June 30, 2026: Tamil Nadu’s political landscape continues to witness intense speculation after the Assembly elections, with fresh reports claiming that more AIADMK legislators may resign and join the ruling TVK. While these reports have generated significant political discussion, neither the AIADMK leadership nor the legislators concerned have officially confirmed the claims. The speculation comes amid changing alliance equations, with several opposition parties extending support to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led TVK following the elections.
Political circles have particularly focused on reports of internal dissatisfaction within the AIADMK after its electoral performance. According to the reports, leaders including C.V. Shanmugam, K.P. Anbazhagan, Hari, and K.C. Veeramani are being linked to possible resignations, although no formal announcements have been made. Earlier resignations by some AIADMK MLAs have further fuelled speculation about the party’s internal situation and future political alignments.
Meanwhile, former Tamil Nadu Transport Minister and Karur MLA M.R. Vijayabhaskar has resigned from the Assembly after submitting his resignation to Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar. He became the sixth AIADMK legislator to vacate his seat since the elections, with reports suggesting he may also join the ruling TVK. The MLAs who have resigned so far include M.R. Vijayabhaskar, C. Vijayabaskar, K. Maragatham Kumaravel, S. Jayakumar, P. Sathyabama, and Esakki Subbiah, further reducing AIADMK’s strength in the state Assembly.
