Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that AIADMK MLAs would oppose Chief Minister Vijay during the confidence vote
May 13, 2026: AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday declared that all party legislators would vote against Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during the confidence motion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Reaffirming the party’s opposition role, Palaniswami said the AIADMK would not support the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government during the crucial floor test.
The high-stakes trust vote triggered intense political activity in Chennai, as the Assembly convened to decide the stability of Vijay’s newly formed administration. However, despite the official stand taken by the AIADMK leadership, a faction of rebel MLAs led by S. P. Velumani extended support to the TVK government during the proceedings.
The development exposed internal divisions within the AIADMK and intensified speculation over growing dissatisfaction inside the party. The trust vote has now become a key political test not only for Vijay’s government but also for opposition unity in Tamil Nadu, with attention turning to how the AIADMK leadership may respond to cross-voting by rebel legislators.
