VHP International President Alok Kumar says every accused has a constitutional right to legal representation
June 30, 2026: A fresh political and legal controversy has emerged over the Ram Janmabhoomi issue after Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International President Alok Kumar criticised the recent resolution passed by the Ayodhya Bar Association. The resolution reportedly demanded the removal of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and opposed legal representation for those accused in the alleged donation theft case. Kumar described the move as politically motivated rather than based on legal principles.
Alok Kumar questioned the Bar Association’s decision to discourage lawyers from representing the accused and its reported proposal to impose a ₹5 lakh penalty on advocates who violate the directive. He said such measures undermine the Constitution and violate the ethical responsibilities of the legal profession. Kumar maintained that while anyone found guilty of corruption or criminal misconduct should be punished through due process, every accused person has a fundamental constitutional right to legal representation.
The VHP leader urged the Ayodhya Bar Association to review its resolution after carefully examining constitutional provisions and legal ethics. He warned that denying legal representation could set a dangerous precedent for the justice system. Kumar’s remarks have added a new dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and are expected to intensify political and legal discussions over the issue in the coming days.
