Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a high-level border security initiative focused on strengthening surveillance
May 27, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has initiated a major border security mission aimed at strengthening surveillance and tightening control along the India–Pakistan border, especially in Rajasthan’s sensitive frontier districts. During a high-level review meeting in Bikaner, Shah directed officials to immediately demolish all illegal constructions located within a 15-kilometre radius of the international border. The move is part of the Centre’s broader strategy to prevent infiltration, smuggling, and illegal cross-border activities in vulnerable regions.
The government has announced a coordinated operational framework involving multiple agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), and state enforcement authorities. Under the new system, agencies will work together to improve intelligence sharing, strengthen surveillance mechanisms, and carry out joint enforcement operations in border districts identified as highly sensitive.
A major focus of the initiative will be cracking down on drug trafficking networks operating through border areas. Authorities have been instructed to monitor suspicious financial transactions, investigate funding sources of companies functioning near border regions, and verify the background of promoters and associated entities. The Centre has also ordered investigations into fake identity documents and alleged Aadhaar misuse in border districts. Senior district officials, police officers, and representatives from central agencies attended the meeting, where Amit Shah stressed the importance of strict vigilance and proactive enforcement in securing India’s western frontier.
