Andhra Pradesh is rapidly expanding electric mobility infrastructure under the Centre’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme

May 24, 2026: The government of Andhra Pradesh is accelerating the development of electric mobility infrastructure under the Centre’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme. Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand said the state was prioritising green mobility, pollution control and clean energy adoption to modernise public transport services. During a virtual review meeting with Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation Managing Director M T Krishna Babu, officials stressed the need for timely completion of charging infrastructure works for electric buses.

Under Tender-II of the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned 750 electric buses for 11 cities and 12 depots across the state. Additionally, Tirupati received 300 more buses under the Convergence Energy Services Limited Tender-III. The buses will operate in cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Amaravati, Kurnool and Anantapur. Officials said the rollout would significantly strengthen eco-friendly urban transport systems in the state.

Authorities also confirmed that charging infrastructure and power connectivity projects are progressing simultaneously across all depots. Against a total project cost of ₹89.9 crore, the Centre has sanctioned ₹79.9 crore for charging stations, electrical systems and depot-level power management facilities. Officials added that coordinated efforts between APSRTC, TRANSCO, discoms and the Union government would help Andhra Pradesh emerge as one of India’s leading states in electric public transport.
