Social activist criticizes opportunistic party-switching, stresses constitutional values and political integrity

April 25, 2026: Anna Hazare has strongly criticized the practice of political defections, stating that switching parties for personal gain is unethical and goes against the spirit of the Constitution of India. He emphasized that the Constitution is supreme and does not justify opportunistic political shifts driven by self-interest.

Hazare said that many politicians change sides not based on ideology but for personal benefit, which weakens democratic values. Referring to his earlier association with Arvind Kejriwal during the India Against Corruption Movement, he noted that he later distanced himself due to differences in values and policies. According to him, the original ideals of the movement were not upheld.

He stressed that political leaders must remain loyal to their principles and maintain integrity in public life. Hazare added that changing political affiliations for any reason undermines public trust and highlighted the importance of ethical conduct in strengthening democracy.
