May 22, 2026: Ajay Rai triggered a political controversy after allegedly making objectionable remarks against Narendra Modi during an event in Mahoba. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, prompting sharp reactions from several Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. In the clip, Rai was reportedly seen making distasteful comments while interacting with supporters gathered at the venue.
Yogi Adityanath strongly criticised the remarks, describing them as “indecent, unparliamentary and unforgivable.” In a social media post, he also took an indirect swipe at senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Congress had reached a stage of “desperation, frustration and mental bankruptcy.” Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary also condemned Rai’s comments, saying they reflected political frustration and a lack of substantive issues to raise against the government.
Several BJP leaders further criticised the Congress over the controversy. Amit Malviya shared the viral clip online, while BJP MP Arun Govil said political disagreements should never cross the boundaries of dignity and civility. Govil also pointed out that Prime Minister Modi had earlier publicly wished Ajay Rai good health during his illness, adding that political discourse should maintain respect even amid ideological battles.
