Amit Shah and All India Trinamool Congress trade charges over voter integrity in West Bengal
April 22, 2026: The political contest in West Bengal has intensified ahead of polling, with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Trinamool Congress exchanging sharp allegations over voter integrity. Addressing a rally, Amit Shah accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of encouraging infiltration to expand her party’s voter base, a charge the BJP has repeatedly raised.
In response, TMC leaders have alleged electoral manipulation by the BJP. Party MP Derek O’Brien wrote to the Election Commission of India, accusing the BJP of facilitating the transport of voters from Surat to influence the election outcome. The letter also raised concerns about the alleged misuse of government resources for political purposes.
The dispute over electoral rolls has further escalated tensions, with both sides making competing claims about irregularities. As the first phase of polling approaches, the focus is now on the Election Commission of India to ensure a free and fair election amid the high-stakes political battle.
