BJP and All India Trinamool Congress ramp up campaigns as Election Commission of India strengthens poll preparations
March 24, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party has stepped up its election preparations in West Bengal, with state president Sukanta Majumdar visiting Kolkata for key organisational meetings and strategy discussions. At the same time, the release of the first supplementary voter list has added a layer of suspense, with voters now able to verify additions and deletions online.
The All India Trinamool Congress has also launched its campaign across North and South Bengal, led by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. Meanwhile, in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the elections as “one-sided” while campaigning, signalling confidence from the BJP camp.
The Election Commission of India has intensified its readiness by conducting reviews, training officials, and replacing 73 returning officers in Bengal. Beyond the state, political activity has picked up pace nationwide, with the National Democratic Alliance finalising seat-sharing in Tamil Nadu, and BJP candidate Pallab Lochan Das filing his nomination in Assam.
