The CID has intensified its investigation into alleged irregularities in legislators’ signatures linked to Assembly appointments

June 9, 2026: Fresh political pressure appears to be building on the Trinamool Congress as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stepped up its probe into alleged irregularities involving legislators’ signatures connected to appointments to key Opposition posts in the West Bengal Assembly. On Tuesday, a CID team reached Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat office in Kolkata to serve a notice to TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee.

According to officials, the investigation relates to alleged discrepancies in signatures submitted during the process of appointing leaders to important Opposition positions in the Assembly. The development comes amid growing political tensions within the ruling party and increasing scrutiny of senior TMC leaders.

The CID has directed Abhishek Banerjee to appear before investigators at its South Kolkata headquarters by 5 pm on June 9. The summons was issued after Banerjee reportedly sought additional time on two occasions, citing health-related reasons. The agency is expected to question him as part of its ongoing inquiry into the matter.
