Digital census process rolls out across MCD wards, residents encouraged to submit household details online

May 1, 2026: Self-enumeration for Census 2027 began in the national capital on Friday, with several residents, including Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, completing the process on the first day. The exercise has been rolled out across all wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, marking a significant step toward a digital-first census system.

In a message shared on X, the LG urged citizens to actively participate, emphasising that accurate data collection is essential for inclusive governance and national development. The voluntary self-enumeration process allows households to submit their details online using a single login, with options available in multiple languages. Residents are also required to provide geo-coordinates of their homes through the portal.

Officials said that after submission, an 11-digit self-enumeration ID will be generated, which must be shown to census enumerators during door-to-door verification scheduled between May 16 and June 14. The initiative, already completed in NDMC and Delhi Cantonment areas, will run in 250 MCD wards until May 15, supported by a dedicated helpline and user-friendly digital tools to ensure accuracy and ease of participation.
