The Delhi airport and airlines issued advisories after thunderstorms and rainfall disrupted flight schedules across Delhi-NCR.

May 28, 2026: The Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory on Thursday evening after rainfall and thunderstorms lashed parts of Delhi and the NCR region, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat. The airport authority warned that some flight operations could be impacted due to inclement weather and asked passengers to check with their respective airlines for updated schedules. It also advised travellers to consider alternative transport options, including the Delhi Metro, to avoid possible delays.

Airlines including IndiGo and SpiceJet also issued advisories informing passengers about possible disruptions. IndiGo stated that it was closely monitoring the weather situation and working to ensure safe and smooth operations, while requesting passengers to stay updated via official channels. SpiceJet similarly cautioned that arrivals, departures and connecting flights could be affected due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi (DEL).

Heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms swept across Delhi-NCR, significantly lowering temperatures after days of severe heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department had earlier issued warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and isolated hailstorms in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and surrounding areas. The sudden weather change provided relief to residents but also led to operational challenges at the airport and in flight scheduling across the region.
