Bhagwant Mann alleged that Diljit Dosanjh was pressured to join politics and linked the firing incident at the singer’s manager’s residence
May 13, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday reacted strongly to the firing incident at singer Diljit Dosanjh’s manager’s residence, alleging that the BJP had pressured the popular singer to join politics. Referring to reports surrounding the attack, Mann claimed that after Diljit refused the proposal, pressure was allegedly created through the firing incident. He also stated that artists should not be dragged into politics and said Diljit had himself maintained that his role was to entertain people.
Mann linked the alleged political pressure to actor-politician Vijay’s recent electoral success in Tamil Nadu, suggesting that political parties were now attempting to bring popular entertainers into active politics. He criticised what he described as attempts to intimidate artists and warned against using such methods in political battles.
Earlier, Punjab minister Harpal Singh Cheema also condemned the firing incident and alleged that members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were responsible for the attack. Cheema further claimed that Diljit Dosanjh had been asked to join the BJP and that the firing took place after he refused. Individuals claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had reportedly taken responsibility for the attack through a viral Facebook post.
