MK Stalin says the DMK remains a decisive political force in Tamil Nadu and announces major organisational reviews

May 20, 2026: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. K. Stalin on Wednesday said the party is carrying out “appropriate reviews” to introduce major organisational changes following its defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The statement comes days after actor-politician C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as chief minister after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured 108 seats and later crossed the majority mark with support from smaller parties. DMK won 59 seats and became the principal opposition party in the 234-member Assembly.

In a letter addressed to party workers, Stalin said that despite being party president, he would continue to function as an ordinary cadre member dedicated to strengthening the movement. He asserted that the DMK still remains a key force shaping Tamil Nadu politics and said the party leadership is working on structural reforms to expand its reach and rebuild organisational strength.

Stalin also called on party cadres to celebrate the 103rd birth anniversary of former chief minister M. Karunanidhi on June 3 across the state. He urged party leaders to honour senior members who contributed to the growth of the DMK and appealed to the youth wing to actively promote Karunanidhi’s achievements on social media platforms. He added that the party would continue working for the welfare and interests of Tamil Nadu.
