DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan criticised the appointment of astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel
May 13, 2026: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson TKS Elangovan on Wednesday criticised the appointment of TVK spokesperson and astrologer Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. Taking a jibe at the move, Elangovan said an astrologer could only make predictions and would still require proper administrative guidance to function within government rules and powers. He questioned the growing influence of astrologers in politics and remarked that Vijay appeared to have more faith in Vettrivel than in his own party members.
Speaking to ANI, Elangovan also defended DMK’s ideological stand on Sanatan Dharma and backed Udhayanidhi Stalin’s earlier remarks on the issue. He said the DMK opposes caste-based discrimination linked to Manudharma and argued that South India historically followed a more equal social structure. According to him, the party’s opposition to Sanatan practices is rooted in the ideology of the Justice Party and has remained central to the DMK’s political identity since its formation.
Elangovan further defended the previous DMK government against allegations made by Vijay regarding Tamil Nadu’s finances. He claimed that the Stalin-led administration introduced welfare schemes benefiting underprivileged communities and denied accusations of financial mismanagement. The remarks came after Vijay criticised the former DMK government for allegedly burdening Tamil Nadu with massive debt and weakening the state treasury.
