Security agencies have stepped up surveillance and launched a joint investigation after suspicious drone-like objects
June 2, 2026: Security agencies have intensified monitoring efforts in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut after reports emerged of suspicious camera-equipped drone-like objects flying over the sensitive cantonment area. The alert was received on the evening of May 30, prompting immediate action by the Army and local police. Joint search operations were launched, and senior military and police officials were informed about the development.
As part of the investigation, teams conducted extensive searches in areas including Sardhana Road, Kankerkhera, RVC and Ganganagar. Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to trace the origin and movement of the suspected aerial objects. Additional City Superintendent of Police Vinayak Gopal Bhonsle said specialised police units, surveillance teams and social media monitoring cells were deployed to assist in the inquiry.
Officials confirmed that a high-level meeting involving Army officers and central agency representatives was held to review security protocols and coordinate the investigation. Bhonsle dismissed reports claiming that two drones had been shot down, stating that Army officials had denied such claims. Authorities have warned that operating drones without permission in restricted military zones is a punishable offence, and legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
