Actor-comedian Gaurav Gera, who is currently receiving praise for his performances in Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, recently opened up about the difficult phase he faced while trying to build a career in Mumbai.
In a conversation with Jist, the actor reflected on his financial struggles, career choices and the support he received from his family during his journey in the entertainment industry.
Gaurav Gera Was First In His Family To Enter Entertainment Industry
Gaurav revealed that he came from an academically accomplished family and was the first person to pursue a creative career.
“Mere yahan koi filmon mein nahi tha,” he shared while recalling his early years.
The actor said he was always inclined towards art and creativity, though his interests were not fully aligned with traditional academic expectations.
He initially attempted to enter the field of design and later joined Pearl Academy of Fashion. However, he soon realised that designing was not the path he truly wanted to follow.
“Mujhe laga ye woh nahi hai jo main karna chahta hoon,” he recalled.
After discussing it with his father, Gaurav completed the course, worked for six months and eventually joined theatre to pursue acting seriously.
Actor Reveals He Had Just ₹84 In His Bank Account
Speaking about his struggling days in Mumbai, Gaurav revealed that there was a time when he had only ₹84 left in his bank account.
“Mere account mein Rs 84 the,” he said.
The actor shared that he would often walk past an HDFC Bank branch and jokingly pray to it for support during those financially difficult times.
Despite the hardships, Gaurav maintained a positive attitude and tried not to let financial struggles break his spirit.
Family Supported Him Despite Financial Challenges
Gaurav credited his parents for allowing him the freedom to choose his own path even though the family came from an engineering and corporate background.
He revealed that his father, who worked a salaried job, would send him small amounts whenever possible to support him financially.
“Rs 2,000 bhej raha hoon, isse zyada nahi hai,” Gaurav recalled from one of his father’s letters.
The actor said those letters still remain extremely special to him.
‘I Wanted To Be Someone Who Gives’
Despite facing financial struggles, Gaurav said he never wanted to depend heavily on others.
“Main dene wala banna chahta tha, lene wala nahi,” he shared.
The actor added that during those days, difficulties did not feel overwhelming because he remained focused on his dream and continued working hard.
If he did not have money for transport, he simply walked instead of complaining about the situation.
Success Of Dhurandhar Brings Fresh Recognition
Gaurav Gera has recently received widespread appreciation for his role as Aalam Bhai in Dhurandhar.
