Security forces in Manipur seized 15.35 kg of suspected opium from a vehicle carrying fake Army insignia
June 14, 2026: Security forces in Manipur’s Senapati district seized 15.35 kg of suspected opium concealed inside a vehicle carrying fake Army credentials and arrested the driver during a frisking and checking operation. The accused, identified as Tarkeshwar Singh (45) from Assam’s Tinsukia district, was intercepted at the T Khellen check-post by a joint team comprising the Senapati Operation Team, CRPF personnel and Assam Rifles under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Zaib Shaikh.
According to police, the vehicle was fitted with a VIP flag post and displayed Army-related insignia, including a nameplate marked “ARMY” and “MINISTRY OF DEFENCE.” Officers became suspicious when the car, allegedly portraying the status of an Army Brigadier’s vehicle, was travelling without any escort. A detailed search revealed 17 packets of suspected opium weighing around 15.35 kg hidden inside a compartment beneath the rear right door.
Investigators confirmed that neither the vehicle nor the driver had any connection with the Indian Army. Police said the accused used the fake insignia and defence-related markings to avoid security checks. Along with the narcotics, officials seized the vehicle, mobile phones, cash, a PAN card and a voter ID card. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while further investigation is underway.
