Family members of 23-year-old Aditya Sharma have urged the Centre and Himachal Pradesh government

June 11, 2026: The family of Aditya Sharma, a 23-year-old seafarer from Galore village in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, has appealed to the Central and state governments to ensure the swift return of his mortal remains after he was killed in the attack on the Palau-flagged vessel MT Settebello near the Strait of Hormuz. Aditya, a deck cadet, was among the three Indian crew members who lost their lives in the incident, while 21 other Indian sailors were rescued from the vessel.

The grieving family has also demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the attack. Aditya’s grandfather questioned why the vessel continued its voyage despite reported warnings, while his uncle said the family spent an anxious night trying to obtain information about his whereabouts before learning of his death. Relatives have raised concerns about whether sufficient efforts were made to rescue him and have sought clarity on the events that unfolded during the attack.

Family members have requested assistance from former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and the Central government to bring Aditya’s body back home for his final rites. Expressing condolences, the Chief Minister assured all possible support to the bereaved family, while Anurag Thakur said he had approached External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and urged Indian authorities in Oman to facilitate the early repatriation of the mortal remains.
