Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In As Bengal Chief Minister
In neighbouring West Bengal, the BJP scripted a historic victory by ending years of Trinamool Congress dominance in the state.
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday at a grand ceremony held at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior NDA leaders.
The 57-year-old BJP leader emerged as one of the biggest winners of the Assembly elections after securing victories from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur constituencies. In Bhabanipur, he defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by more than 15,000 votes, marking a major political upset.
