A Delhi court has sent doctor Manish Gupta to two days of police custody after he was arrested for allegedly murdering his domestic help
June 19, 2026: A Delhi court on Friday remanded doctor Manish Gupta to two days of police custody in connection with the alleged murder of his domestic help, Meena, at his residence in Mount Kailash near Greater Kailash. Police informed the Saket Court that custodial interrogation was necessary to collect evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events. Meena, aged 45, had reportedly been working at the doctor’s home for the last 15 years.
According to investigators, Gupta did not attempt to flee after the incident. When police reached the spot, he was allegedly sitting on a staircase and told officers, “Give me the death penalty.” The victim was found lying in a pool of blood on the terrace of the house. A cricket bat and a blood-stained kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapons, were recovered from the scene. Police said Gupta was present near the body when officers arrived and was immediately detained.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Gupta, who was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), had ongoing disagreements with his wife over plans to dismiss Meena from her job. Neighbours and local domestic workers reported hearing screams shortly before the incident came to light. Police have stated that there is currently no evidence indicating the involvement of any other person, and further investigation is underway.
