Police have launched an investigation after a gold trader was found murdered inside his shop

July 9, 2026: A 49-year-old gold trader, Bikash Das, was allegedly murdered inside his jewellery shop in Arangghata under the Dhantala police station area of West Bengal’s Nadia district. According to his family, he was attacked with a sharp weapon, sustaining multiple head injuries before acid was allegedly poured on his body. The family also claimed that the assailants fled after looting gold jewellery and around ₹3 lakh in cash from the shop, alleging the murder was linked to a business rivalry.

Das, who also owned another jewellery shop in Ranaghat, had reportedly stayed back at his Arangghata shop on Wednesday night as customers were expected to collect pledged gold jewellery. Around 10:15 pm, a local businessman alerted his wife after finding him lying unconscious inside the shop. Family members rushed to the scene and took him to Sabdalpur Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas along with the call records of the deceased. Additional police personnel have been deployed in the locality as investigators work to identify and arrest those responsible. Authorities are probing all possible motives, including the family’s allegation of business rivalry and robbery.
