The Gujarat ATS arrested eight people for allegedly attempting to build a Jaish-e-Mohammed network, recruit members
July 3, 2026: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested eight people, including seven from Gujarat and one from Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly conspiring to establish a network of the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in the state. According to the ATS, the accused were involved in recruiting members, spreading the outfit’s ideology and attempting to radicalise individuals across India through various communication platforms. Officials alleged that the group had formed an organisation named “Darul Islam Gujarat Jaish-e-Mohammed” as part of its activities.
The ATS claimed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based handlers identified as Abdullah and Mohammad Umar. Investigators alleged that they translated JeM literature from Urdu into Gujarati to promote the organisation’s ideology and were involved in a conspiracy to carry out terrorist activities in Gujarat. Officials further alleged that the group received around ₹3 lakh to support its operations, part of which was reportedly used to purchase a vehicle.
During searches, the ATS said it recovered 254 digital files containing alleged extremist material, including books, speeches, videos, audio recordings, photographs and a Jaish-e-Mohammed flag from an encrypted application on a mobile phone. Investigators also seized books allegedly authored by JeM chief Masood Azhar, letters seeking membership in the banned outfit and translated literature. A case has been registered against all eight accused under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is continuing.
