New Delhi: Security was intensified at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continued its protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the recent examination paper leak controversy.
A large contingent of Delhi Police personnel was deployed around the protest venue to maintain law and order amid ongoing demonstrations.
ACP Injured in Fresh Connaught Place Violence
While the protest at Jantar Mantar remained under heavy security, fresh violence broke out in Connaught Place on Wednesday evening.
According to Delhi Police, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm near Tolstoy Marg, where a group of alleged miscreants attacked police personnel with stones and bottles.
During the violence, ACP Connaught Place Vivek Bhagat sustained injuries. Senior police officials immediately shifted him to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for treatment.
Police officials said the situation remained tense for a brief period before being brought under control.
Opposition MPs Allege They Were Prevented From Meeting Sonam Wangchuk
Meanwhile, opposition Members of Parliament alleged that Delhi Police stopped their delegation from meeting activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently admitted to Medanta Hospital.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Majhi questioned why the delegation was denied access.
“This protest was going on for 22 days before the session began. Where was the Delhi government at that time?… Today, we went to meet Sonam Wangchuk. Why weren’t we allowed to meet him? We were stopped at the gate. His wife told us that he had no court order prohibiting anyone from meeting him,” she told reporters.
RJD MP Criticises Government
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sanjay Yadav accused the government of ignoring the concerns of students and young people.
“Even after such a massive public outcry, if the government insists that student issues shouldn’t be politicized, this is the height of this government’s arrogance… This is not the work of any political party or any organization. The youth, suffering from your policies and tortured by your lathi system, are sitting here protesting,” he said.
Wangchuk Continues Hunger Strike
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike for 25 days in support of the anti-paper leak movement, reiterated his demand that the government provide written assurance that no legal action will be taken against protesters before he agrees to end his fast.
The demand comes as the agitation over alleged examination paper leaks continues to escalate, with protesters seeking accountability, education reforms, and action against those responsible for the controversy.
