Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said more government offices will be relocated to Kangra as the state
July 7, 2026: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday virtually inaugurated the new office of the State Commission for Backward Classes chairman in Dharamshala after it was shifted from the state secretariat in Shimla. The Chief Minister said the move is part of the government’s broader plan to relocate more government offices to Kangra district and strengthen administrative services in the region.
Sukhu said the state government had declared Kangra as Himachal Pradesh’s “tourism capital” and was working to improve governance by decentralising key offices. He added that relocating the OBC Commission office would benefit a large OBC population in Kangra and neighbouring districts by reducing the need to travel to Shimla for official work and ensuring faster access to services.
The Chief Minister also said the government is making efforts to secure OBC status for communities in the Dodra Kwar area of Shimla district and Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Bara Bhangal area of Kangra. He further directed the Kangra Deputy Commissioner to make arrangements for opening the Himachal Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) office in Dharamshala at the earliest.
