Former Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai said he chose not to comment earlier

July 7, 2026: VHP leader and former Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai has issued his first public statement after stepping down from his post amid allegations linked to the alleged theft of Ram Temple donations. In a post shared on X, Rai said he deliberately refrained from making public comments while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) carried out its preliminary inquiry. He added that the allegations against him emerged following reports of irregularities in donation counting at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex since June 6, 2026.

Rai said the Trust wanted the SIT to complete and verify its preliminary findings before responding publicly. While acknowledging that the initial report has now been made public, he urged people not to treat it as the final conclusion. He appealed for patience until the investigation is fully completed, saying the final SIT report would present the complete facts and clear up any misinformation surrounding the case.

Reflecting on his public life, Rai said he has been serving in Ayodhya through the organisation since October 1991 and has spent nearly 45 years in public service. He maintained that his work has always been transparent and open to public scrutiny, expressing confidence that the truth would ultimately prevail once the investigation reaches its conclusion.
