June 8, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to heavy rainfall across at least 17 states, bringing relief to many regions battling summer heat. States including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland and West Bengal are expected to receive rainfall on Monday. Heavy showers are also likely over parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Northeast during the next week, with weather warnings issued in several areas.
In the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 8 and June 13. Meanwhile, Karnataka may receive intense rainfall until June 10. Uttar Pradesh has been placed under an orange alert in several districts due to the possibility of thunderstorms, rain and strong winds, while Bihar remains under a yellow alert with forecasts of rain and gusty winds over the coming days.
Despite the widespread rainfall forecast, Delhi is expected to remain hot and dry, with maximum temperatures touching 42°C and heatwave-like conditions likely to persist. Rajasthan is also facing extreme heat, with temperatures ranging between 44°C and 45°C in several districts. The IMD has advised residents in affected areas to take precautions against prolonged exposure to heat while monitoring weather updates as conditions continue to evolve.
