Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over several districts, with residents and tourists advised to remain cautious as landslide and flood risks increase.
July 9, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall, landslides and mudslides in several parts of Himachal Pradesh as active southwest monsoon conditions continue across the state. The advisory covers Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts, where rising water levels, mudslides and increased flow in rivers and streams are likely. Residents and tourists have been advised to avoid vulnerable areas and stay away from water bodies during the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
According to Shobhit Katiyar, Head of the Meteorological Centre in Himachal Pradesh, heavy rainfall has already been recorded across the state in the past 24 hours. He said monsoon activity will remain active over Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur for the next five to seven days, with isolated heavy rainfall expected almost every day. Other districts are also likely to receive moderate rainfall, prompting authorities to issue advisories urging people to remain alert.
The IMD expects the active monsoon phase to continue until around July 13-14 before gradually weakening later in the month. Rainfall is likely to remain active over the middle hill regions during the third week of July before easing after July 23. The weather department has urged residents and visitors to closely monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel in landslide-prone areas, and follow instructions issued by local authorities to ensure safety.
