India has dispatched medical teams, a field hospital, and humanitarian supplies to support rescue

June 28, 2026: India has launched Operation Amistad to provide humanitarian assistance to earthquake-hit Venezuela, where powerful tremors have claimed at least 1,430 lives and left thousands missing. As rescue operations continue, India has sent a field hospital unit, medical personnel, medicines, medical equipment, and relief supplies to assist local authorities in emergency response and recovery efforts.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that the relief package is aimed at strengthening Venezuela’s ongoing rescue and healthcare operations. He said the field hospital, medical equipment, and essential humanitarian supplies would support treatment for those injured in the disaster. The earthquake has caused widespread destruction, adding to the country’s existing economic and political challenges.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, two Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft carrying around 35 tonnes of relief material transited through Abidjan before heading to Venezuela. The mission includes 41 Indian Army personnel, including nine medical officers, equipped to provide trauma care, emergency medical treatment, life-saving surgeries, and other critical healthcare services. The team is also carrying nearly six tonnes of medical stores and humanitarian supplies as part of India’s relief effort.
