Prime Minister Narendra Modi met top European Union leaders in Evian to discuss economic cooperation, strategic ties

June 17, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a trilateral meeting with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Evian. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G7 Summit and highlighted the growing momentum in India-European Union relations following recent progress in trade and economic cooperation.

After the meeting, Modi described the discussions as productive and forward-looking. He recalled hosting both European leaders during India’s Republic Day celebrations earlier this year and said the months since then had marked an important phase in strengthening ties between India and the European Union.

The leaders focused on expanding economic engagement and identifying new areas of collaboration. Modi said a stronger India-EU partnership could contribute significantly to global peace, stability and prosperity, particularly at a time when the world is facing increasing geopolitical and economic challenges.
