Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya claimed that several Samajwadi Party MPs are prepared to leave the party

June 17, 2026: A fresh political confrontation has erupted in Uttar Pradesh after Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya claimed that 25 to 26 Samajwadi Party (SP) MPs were ready to break away from the party. Speaking to reporters, Maurya alleged that dissatisfaction was growing within the SP and suggested that several elected representatives were unhappy with the party leadership.

The BJP leader also criticised SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, claiming that the opposition party was struggling to maintain unity and lacked a clear political direction. Maurya asserted that the BJP continued to enjoy a strong position in Uttar Pradesh, while opposition parties were facing increasing organisational and leadership challenges.

The Samajwadi Party, however, has rejected such claims. Akhilesh Yadav has previously dismissed similar allegations as political propaganda aimed at creating confusion and projecting instability within the opposition. The latest exchange is expected to further intensify the political battle between the BJP and SP as both parties prepare for future electoral contests in the state.
