India hosted the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, with leaders discussing Indo-Pacific security
May 26, 2026: India on Tuesday hosted the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed the importance of preserving the Indo-Pacific as a driver of global growth, stability and security. The meeting brought together US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi for high-level discussions on regional and international issues.
Speaking at the opening session, Jaishankar said the Indo-Pacific remains central to the Quad’s vision and highlighted concerns over supply chain vulnerabilities, connectivity bottlenecks, manufacturing gaps and access to critical resources. He said these challenges also create opportunities for stronger cooperation and technological advancement among the four countries. “As maritime democracies, pluralistic societies and market economies, we share the responsibility towards a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Jaishankar said.
The agenda of the summit included maritime security, critical minerals, resilient supply chains, infrastructure, climate initiatives, emerging technologies and disaster relief cooperation. Discussions also touched on developments in West Asia and the Ukraine conflict. Ahead of the summit, Jaishankar held bilateral talks with Motegi, while Rubio described India as one of America’s most important strategic partners, highlighting cooperation in critical minerals, counterterrorism and supply chains.
