The death of model-actor Twisha Sharma has entered a critical phase after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) formally took over the probe and began re-examining allegations surrounding her death at her marital home in Bhopal.
On Monday, the CBI re-registered the FIR that was initially filed by Bhopal Police and named Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, in the case. A Special Crime Unit team from Delhi reached Bhopal and collected the case diary, witness statements, medical documents and digital evidence gathered during the local police investigation.
The case has been registered under sections linked to dowry death after investigators reportedly found material suggesting dowry-related harassment. SIT Chief Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul has been listed as the complainant in the fresh CBI FIR.
Focus Shifts To Samarth Singh’s Statements
The spotlight is now on the statements made by Samarth Singh during nearly 10 hours of questioning over three days.
According to sources, Samarth admitted that his relationship with Twisha was troubled but denied allegations of physical abuse. He reportedly told investigators that arguments between them were frequent but claimed these were part of regular marital disagreements and not acts of violence.
Investigators questioned him extensively about the couple’s relationship timeline, their marriage, and the changes that allegedly took place within months of the wedding. Police also sought details about Twisha’s visits to her parental home and whether those visits followed domestic disputes.
Pregnancy And Abortion Under Scanner
One of the most sensitive aspects of the investigation revolves around Twisha Sharma’s pregnancy and subsequent abortion.
Samarth reportedly told investigators that he wanted to become a father, while Twisha did not want to continue the pregnancy. He claimed the abortion was carried out after medical consultation and with Twisha’s consent.
According to his statement, both of them visited the doctor together and obtained the medication through proper medical advice.
However, investigators are now verifying those claims through medical records and related documentation.
The case took a dramatic turn after reports emerged that Twisha’s WhatsApp messages allegedly showed Samarth questioning the paternity of the unborn child. Investigators believe these chats may contradict the narrative presented by Samarth during questioning.
Samarth also reportedly claimed that his mother and he wanted the child, while Twisha became emotionally distressed after conceiving.
Twisha’s family, however, has alleged that psychiatric treatment and medication began only after disputes connected to the pregnancy intensified. They have also claimed that Twisha lost nearly 15 kilograms during this period.
Mental Health Claims To Be Verified
Another key part of the investigation concerns claims regarding Twisha Sharma’s mental health.
Samarth allegedly told investigators that Twisha suffered from Bipolar Disorder and experienced sudden behavioural changes. He later stated that doctors diagnosed her with an adjustment disorder after she sought medical consultation for emotional distress.
Investigators questioned him about when the psychiatric treatment began, whether Twisha’s family was informed, and why a newly married woman required psychiatric treatment within months of marriage.
Samarth also addressed allegations that Twisha was being administered sleeping pills. According to him, the medicines were prescribed by doctors to help reduce stress and improve sleep.
The CBI is expected to closely examine whether the treatment was medically justified, whether Twisha consented to it, and whether crucial details were hidden from her family.
Deleted WhatsApp Chats Under Investigation
Investigators are also probing allegations that Samarth deleted WhatsApp conversations from his phone.
Police sources claim that chat records involving Twisha and her family members were erased. A technical team is now attempting to recover the deleted messages, which could become a crucial part of the investigation.
According to allegations made by Twisha’s family, she had complained that she was forced to quit her job and was not allowed to continue even online work opportunities.
Samarth has denied those allegations and reportedly told police that Twisha resigned voluntarily because the couple wanted to spend more time together after marriage.
Events On Day Of Death Being Reconstructed
Samarth also claimed that there was nothing unusual in Twisha’s behaviour on the day of the incident.
According to his statement, the couple went to the gym together, ate meals together and even went for a walk before the incident occurred.
Investigators are now matching these claims against CCTV footage, mobile phone records, medical reports, witness statements and the couple’s digital activity.
Role Of Mother-In-Law Under Scrutiny
The role of retired judge Giribala Singh remains central to the investigation.
During questioning, Samarth reportedly stated that his mother often mediated disputes between him and Twisha. However, Twisha allegedly believed that her mother-in-law consistently sided with Samarth during disagreements.
The CBI is expected to examine whether there was sustained emotional pressure, domestic harassment or coercion within the household.
With the investigation now under the CBI, the agency is expected to re-evaluate every aspect of the case, including medical evidence, digital communication, financial records and allegations made by both families.
