Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that IIM Bangalore will establish an overseas campus in Indonesia
July 7, 2026: India and Indonesia signed a range of agreements on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral cooperation across education, healthcare and strategic sectors. During a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore will establish its first overseas campus in Indonesia at the Singhasari Special Economic Zone in East Java. The campus is expected to benefit students from across the ASEAN region.
In the healthcare sector, India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation and Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in medical product regulation. The agreement aims to promote knowledge sharing on global regulatory standards and improve access to affordable, high-quality Indian medicines in Indonesia. Both countries also signed an implementation agreement on health workforce collaboration to facilitate fellowship programmes and increase the mobility of qualified healthcare professionals.
The education and health agreements were part of nearly a dozen pacts signed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit, which also covered defence, maritime security and critical minerals cooperation. Modi’s visit to Indonesia marks the first leg of his three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand, with a focus on strengthening India’s strategic and economic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
