International Yoga Day 2026: 6,000 Perform Bhujangasana In Hyderabad, Set Asian Record

Hyderabad: In a remarkable display of unity and wellness, over 6,000 yoga enthusiasts performed Bhujangasana simultaneously at Kanha Shanti Vanam, setting a new benchmark in the Asia Book of Records for the largest gathering to perform the asana together.

The event was part of the Yoga Mahotsav, marking the 50-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga 2026. It was organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush.

Leaders Join Mass Yoga Session

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav led the participants during the record-setting session.

Addressing the gathering, Reddy highlighted yoga’s global relevance, stating that it is not just India’s ancient heritage but a valuable gift to the world, embraced by people across professions and countries.

Yoga’s Role in Building a Healthier Nation

Emphasising the importance of wellness in India’s development journey, Reddy said yoga can play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.

“Yoga offers a practical and cost-effective solution to modern-day challenges such as stress, unhealthy lifestyles, and pollution,” he said, adding that Hyderabad should also emerge as a global hub for holistic wellness alongside its reputation for technology and innovation.

Global Movement and New Initiatives

Prataprao Jadhav credited the leadership of Narendra Modi for transforming yoga into a global movement focused on physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

He also highlighted the newly launched Yoga 365 initiative, aimed at encouraging people to integrate yoga into their daily lives. As part of this effort, a 100-day free yoga training programme is currently underway, targeting participation from over one lakh individuals and offering Yog Mitra certification.

Looking Ahead

The next Yoga Mahotsav, marking the 25-day countdown to International Yoga Day, will be held in Khajuraho, symbolising the blend of India’s cultural heritage and wellness traditions.

Officials also noted India’s expanding global footprint in wellness, including yoga sessions conducted at international platforms such as the World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
