July 1, 2026: Iran has invited BJP president Nitin Nabin and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to attend the state funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, scheduled to be held next week. The invitation comes ahead of the multi-day funeral ceremonies being organised in Iran following Khamenei’s death in the US-Israel strikes on February 28.
According to reports, the invitations have been extended to the heads of India’s two largest political parties as part of Iran’s outreach to international leaders and representatives expected to attend the state funeral. The ceremonies are expected to draw dignitaries from several countries to pay their respects to the late Iranian leader.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who served as Iran’s Supreme Leader for decades, remained one of the country’s most influential political and religious figures. His funeral is expected to be one of the largest state ceremonies in Iran, with extensive international participation.
