Punjab Police has warned citizens against clicking on fake Cockroach Janta Party membership links being circulated on WhatsApp
May 24, 2026: The viral popularity of the Cockroach Janta Party has now become a tool for cybercriminals, with scammers allegedly circulating phishing links on WhatsApp in the name of offering party membership. According to Punjab Police, these fake links are designed to hack mobile phones, steal financial information and potentially withdraw money from users’ bank accounts. Police urged people not to click on suspicious links related to the rapidly trending satirical movement.
Ludhiana Police issued a public advisory warning citizens that the scam was “not a joke, but a big conspiracy” aimed at financial fraud. Officials explained that cybercriminals are exploiting public curiosity around the Cockroach Janta Party by sending fake invitations to join the outfit through WhatsApp messages. Police said clicking on such phishing links could compromise devices, provide access to bank details and even allow fraudsters to take loans in victims’ names.
The satirical political outfit was founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a Boston University student previously associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. Despite being formed only recently, the CJP has gained massive traction online with memes and satirical commentary focused on issues affecting young Indians, including unemployment and exam paper leaks. The party emerged following controversy around remarks linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Meanwhile, police protection has reportedly been deployed outside Dipke’s family residence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar amid the growing social media frenzy surrounding the movement.
