Former model-actor Twisha Sharma was cremated in Bhopal after a second postmortem ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court
May 24, 2026: The last rites of former model-actor Twisha Sharma were performed on Sunday evening at Bhadbhada Ghat in Bhopal following a second postmortem conducted by a four-member team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi at AIIMS Bhopal. Moments before the cremation, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma said he was deeply emotional and wanted to bid farewell to his daughter first. Family members stated that Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh were not allowed to attend the funeral ceremony.
Twisha Sharma was found dead on May 12 at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area. Her family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and later approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking a second postmortem, alleging irregularities in the initial investigation and report. Acting on the court’s directions, the second postmortem was conducted under tight security at AIIMS Bhopal. Meanwhile, Samarth Singh was arrested in Jabalpur after remaining absconding and has been sent to seven days of police custody for further interrogation.
Twisha’s family has continued to demand accountability in the case. Her relative Ashish Sharma alleged that the accused family was responsible for the incident and called for complete transparency in the investigation. Navnidhi Sharma earlier said the AIIMS team had assured the family of a fair and unbiased examination. The matter has also reached the Supreme Court of India, which registered a suo motu case titled ‘In Re Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Woman at Matrimonial Home’. A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant is expected to hear the matter on Monday.
