Senior TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee accuses Abhishek Banerjee of sidelining him in a forgery case
June 11, 2026: The Trinamool Congress witnessed fresh internal tensions on Thursday after senior MP Kalyan Banerjee publicly criticised party colleague Abhishek Banerjee. Kalyan alleged that he was removed as Abhishek’s lawyer in an ongoing signature forgery case at the last moment and described the decision as humiliating. His remarks came shortly after the Calcutta High Court granted interim protection from arrest to Abhishek Banerjee and directed him to appear before the West Bengal CID by 6 pm.
Speaking to India Today, Kalyan Banerjee said he was informed around midnight that he would no longer represent Abhishek in the case. Calling the move disrespectful, he claimed it reflected a lack of trust and respect towards senior leaders within the party. Kalyan further accused Abhishek of being arrogant and alleged that his style of functioning had negatively affected the Trinamool Congress.
Kalyan, who is considered a close ally of Mamata Banerjee, said the party chief would eventually have to decide between senior leaders and Abhishek Banerjee. His comments have intensified speculation about internal divisions within the TMC, which is already facing political challenges, dissent, and defections from several leaders.
