Police register a negligence case after a six-month-old baby allegedly fell seriously ill following an excessive medicine dose prescribed after vaccination.

July 12, 2026: A government doctor in Kerala has been booked after allegations that she prescribed an excessive dose of liquid paracetamol to a six-month-old infant following routine immunisation. The incident occurred at the Aluva Government District Hospital, where the baby received a vaccine in April. According to the child’s father, the medicine was prescribed in a quantity beyond the recommended dosage for the infant’s age and weight, after which the baby developed serious health complications.

The infant was admitted to a private hospital in Aluva, where the child remained under treatment for five days. The family claimed they spent nearly ₹80,000 on medical care following the incident. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with negligent acts endangering human life or personal safety. Officials said medical experts will examine the child’s treatment records, and the doctor’s statement will also be recorded as part of the investigation.

In a separate case highlighting concerns over alleged medical negligence in Kerala, an 18-month-old child reportedly died after being administered anaesthesia during treatment for a cut lip at a hospital in Payyannur. Authorities are examining both incidents as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the treatment provided.
