Kerala Police have registered a murder case following the death of a 22-year-old medical student in Uzbekistan
July 10, 2026: Kerala Police have registered a murder case in connection with the death of a 22-year-old medical student in Uzbekistan, following a complaint filed by her parents. The FIR was registered at Haripad Police Station after the family approached the District Police Chief. According to Kayamkulam Deputy Superintendent of Police Binukumar T, Indian law permits the registration of the case despite the alleged crime taking place abroad. The police said they will monitor the investigation in Uzbekistan through the Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs.
Police said the accused is the victim’s classmate from Malappuram, who allegedly attacked her during an argument. However, the victim’s family has rejected this version, claiming her body bore multiple injuries that suggested she was brutally assaulted before her death. A relative who travelled to Uzbekistan to bring back the body alleged that local investigators informed him the student had been tortured and that her death was not caused merely by a blow to the head.
The family has demanded that the investigation continue in Kerala and has sought the accused’s extradition if required. They also alleged that the accused had been forcing the victim to convert her religion, claims they say were supported by statements from other students. Kerala Police said they will examine the legal provisions for extradition in consultation with the Ministry of External Affairs while continuing to gather information from Uzbek authorities.
