Lucknow University assistant professor Paramjeet Singh was arrested after audio clips allegedly showed him

May 16, 2026: A Lucknow University assistant professor was arrested on Friday night after audio clips allegedly featuring him pressuring a female student to “meet” him went viral on social media. Paramjeet Singh, a faculty member in the Zoology Department, has been accused of harassing the student and attempting to lure her with promises of leaked examination papers. In the recordings, the man is allegedly heard offering personal, financial and academic help while repeatedly insisting that the student meet him.

The controversy escalated after multiple audio clips surfaced online. In one conversation, the professor allegedly claimed he had leaked papers for the student’s elective and core subjects and urged her to visit him. Despite the student reportedly refusing several times, the man allegedly continued insisting that she meet him within a week. At the end of one clip, a female voice claimed she had been repeatedly troubled by the caller.

Following the viral recordings, the university administration launched an inquiry and police registered a case against the professor. Vice Chancellor JP Saini directed the Internal Complaints Committee to submit its report within 24 hours. Police registered an FIR under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to harassment and alleged attempts to compromise examination fairness through organised cheating and paper leak activities. According to Lucknow Police, the accused was taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
