Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated actor-turned-politician Vijay on becoming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
May 12, 2026: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday congratulated actor-turned-politician Chandrasekar Joseph Vijay on becoming the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In a post on X, Ibrahim praised Vijay’s political rise and said the people of Tamil Nadu had entrusted him with a responsibility much bigger than any role he had played on screen during his acting career.
Referring to Vijay’s famous political slogan, Ibrahim said, “Oru Viral Puratchi” or the “one-finger revolution” was now close to creating history. He also described Vijay as his “friend” and recalled how the actor’s fans had watched him defeat corrupt politicians and villains in films for years before entering real-life politics.
The Malaysian Prime Minister further highlighted the long-standing historical, cultural and people-to-people ties shared between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu. He said he looked forward to working closely with Vijay in the coming years. Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday.
