Cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread damage across Jammu & Kashmir
July 3, 2026: Heavy monsoon rainfall continued to batter the northern Himalayan region, triggering cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Several districts witnessed widespread damage as overflowing rivers and streams inundated villages, disrupted transport and damaged infrastructure. Authorities remain on high alert as adverse weather conditions persist across the region.
In Jammu & Kashmir, a cloudburst in Kupwara triggered a flash flood that damaged roads, washed away livestock and affected nearby villages. In Anantnag, children were temporarily trapped after floodwaters entered a school area before being safely rescued by local residents and emergency teams. Heavy rainfall also caused landslides and road blockages in Baramulla and Doda, disrupting connectivity as restoration work continued despite challenging weather conditions.
Himachal Pradesh also witnessed extensive damage, particularly in Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba, where flash floods washed away roads, damaged highways and flooded houses. Power supply was disrupted in several areas after transformers were damaged. Rescue and relief operations are underway across the affected states, while authorities have urged residents to avoid riverbanks and landslide-prone areas as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
