Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group arrested a key accused from Dehradun in the NEET UG-2026 paper leak case

May 12, 2026: A major breakthrough has emerged in the NEET UG-2026 paper leak investigation after Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested an absconding accused identified as Rakesh from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Police sources said he had been hiding at a friend’s residence, while the friend had already been arrested earlier this month. Acting on fresh leads, the Rajasthan SOG tracked and detained Rakesh as part of its expanding probe into the alleged multi-state examination leak network. Officials believe the arrest could reveal crucial links connected to the wider racket.

Investigators have also uncovered a WhatsApp group named “Private Mafia” from the mobile phones of several suspects. The group reportedly had nearly 400 members and allegedly circulated a password-protected PDF containing a leaked NEET paper and a “guess paper”. According to investigators, the material included typed questions, while an earlier document traced from Kerala to Rajasthan reportedly contained handwritten questions. Police suspect the handwritten content was later converted into a typed PDF before being distributed among candidates. Sources added that the group’s pinned message warned members against forwarding the material outside the group.

The Rajasthan SOG has intensified raids across multiple states and detained more than 20 suspects so far. Officials claim a document containing over 400 questions was circulated before the examination, with several questions closely matching the actual NEET UG-2026 paper. Following the controversy, the National Testing Agency cancelled the examination, citing serious irregularities and inputs shared by law enforcement agencies. Authorities are now considering a wider central agency probe as the investigation into the alleged organised leak network continues.
