North East students’ body urges urgent action, accountability, and dialogue to restore peace in violence-hit Manipur.
April 27, 2026: In Shillong, the North East Students’ Organisation has called for immediate steps to end the ongoing violence in Manipur. Expressing deep concern, the organisation said the repeated cycle of violence and bloodshed continues to claim innocent lives and disrupt peaceful coexistence across communities.
NESO chairman S B Jyrwa described the attacks on unarmed civilians as a grave humanitarian issue, highlighting the suffering, fear, and uncertainty faced by families. The organisation extended condolences to those affected and termed the crisis a “collective pain” for the entire Northeast, while also questioning the inability of both state and central authorities to effectively restore peace.
The group has demanded immediate, fair, and transparent intervention to prevent further escalation and ensure justice. It urged that those responsible be identified and held accountable under the law, while appealing to all communities to show restraint and prioritise dialogue. Reiterating its commitment to peace initiatives, NESO stressed that restoring normalcy in Manipur is both a regional necessity and a moral imperative.
